2JM is one of the many apartments under renovation in the growing Bezuidenhout district in The Hague, the Netherlands.
In the 1920/1930s, the Bezuidenhout neighborhood was originally worker housing accommodating the influx of labor from the rural areas of the Netherlands. Now, many of these apartments are undergoing renovation to become starter homes for young professionals and larger families. In recent years, there also has been a high demand for larger family homes in the neighborhood as both local and international schools have a growing presence in the area. As a result of this pressure, the municipality has changed the zoning to allow for extra levels and extensions to be added to existing buildings.
The design task is to add a residential floor extension with exterior space, allowing another bedroom and more space for a family of four or five, as the current 84m2 space is only a two bedroom apartment. The new apartment will be renovated into a charming family-style apartment with a bonus outdoor deck.
C Concept Design has been part of the development of 2JM from initial design sketches, solar studies, city permits, initial material selections, and construction documents. The expected completion date is 2019.
