The Utrecht Medical Center sets the goal to establish itself as a state-of-the-art healthcare provider by creating a master plan that both inspires a campus atmosphere and solves logistical challenges for those using the hospital. The introduction of a large “landscaped” elliptical common area on the North side will tie all the main front entrances to the center and especially the polyclinic facilities to the guest arriving by automobile. Internally the existing courtyards of the nursing units will be converted into waiting areas for the polyclinics patients with seating areas under large overhead skylights. The south side master plan will focus on a creation of a campus boulevard with a pedestrian and bike traffic connection to university and to the public transport. The boulevard connection with the University facilities will the reinforcement of UMC’s extension as a premier teaching hospital in The Netherlands.
